Short answer
Capacity alone creates no benefit. What matters is how many kWh are shifted at what price spread, after losses, degradation and cost.
Important variables
- Usable capacity
- Full cycles per year
- Value per shifted kWh
- Efficiency, degradation and life
Worked example
10 kWh × 220 cycles × €0.22/kWh × 88% gives about €426 gross benefit in year one. Operating cost is deducted and future benefit discounted.
Break-even: What changes the result?
More cycles help only when generation and load enable them. Falling capacity reduces later cash flows.
Common mistakes
- Using nominal rather than usable capacity
- Assuming a full cycle every day
- Counting efficiency twice or not at all
- Double-counting solar and battery benefits
